Energy and Forces – Static Electricity
Science Week
In the first picture the children are having great fun investigating chromatography using skittles and hot water. Chromatography is the science of separating mixtures. They watched and waited as a rainbow appeared on the plate. The colours moved towards the middle and created a whirl of colour.
In the second picture, you can see the children’s attempt at making a giant gummy bear! The children left a regular sized gummy bear in water for 24 hours. The gummy bear grew to 8 times its size in just one day as it absorbed water. Fascinating!
In the final picture the children were investigating whether oranges float or sink. The children found that oranges float, but would it make a difference if they peeled the orange? What do you think?
