Pupils from Ms Lehane’s 1st Class decided to size up matters around Scoil Barra – literally! We measured the length and width of various areas around our school. To begin with, we had to estimate distances. Then, trundle wheels, metre sticks and metre strings were put to good use. Everyone wondered why, at times, our answers differed. Maybe the metre sticks weren’t placed closely together, or, perhaps, the trundle wheel went on a loop, instead of straight across the yard. Special thanks to Mr Naughton, Ms Ginnell and Ms McCarthy for guiding us through these discoveries. This is definitely real-world Maths!
