Seactain na Gaeilge

Soccer Champs!!!

Our Scoil Barra girls  recently won the Cork section of FAI 5-a-side Primary Schools Soccer competition held in Turner’s Cross.

The girls represented us proudly on the day by displaying great team spirit and by winning their 3 matches convincingly.

They now go on to represent Cork in the Munster final in Waterford on May 12th. Best of luck to the girls and their super-coaches Mr. Dwyer and Ms. Galvin!

Seachtain na Gaeilge

As part of Scoil Barra’s Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations, two local Irish dancers -Dick Beamish and Pat Kelly-entertained the 3rd-6th classes with their dancing skills. Dick also spoke to the children about his own background in Gaeilge and then took to the stage to wow the students with his Sean Nós dancing! Pat Kelly provided excellent entertainment with his dancing puppet, Séamus, and his famous Brush Dance! The session was beautifully finished off by a rendition of Galway Girl and a Glee number by the guitar group and their teacher, Sarah.

Scoil Barra compete in County Tag Rugby Blitz

Tag rugby is one of the newest sports to Scoil Barra!

Matt McGrath, Munster Youth Development Officer, has been working with some of our classes every week and we have really enjoyed our sessions.

Some of the children from 5th and 6th class have also been training after school with Miss Doherty, Miss Clifford, Miss Lehane, Rose Derham and John O’ Flynn.

Our tag rugby panel of boys and girls from 5th and 6th class proudly represented us at the County Tag Rugby Blitz in Tanner Park, Ballincollig on the 22nd of April. A great time was had by all on a day where the emphasis was on sportmanship, fair play, good conduct and fun!

Staff Meeting

Staff Meeting on Wednesday, 21st April. Pupils finish school at 12 noon.

Book Launch

As you are aware Scoil Barra is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year (1985-2010). One of the ways we have chosen to do just that is to publish a commemorative 100 page colour book to mark the 25th Anniversary celebrations. We feel it is important to look back and reflect on the school’s journey over the past 25 years and indeed to celebrate the many milestones achieved along the way. We wish to acknowledge the achievements and successes of both our present and past pupils and staff members and their immense contribution to the story that is Scoil Barra. The book entitled “Scoil Barra –A Coming of Age” is presently a work in progress but will be officially launched by The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O’ Keeffe T.D. in late May. The book is a narrative and photographic celebration of the first 25 years with many golden moments captured for posterity. It’s coming your way soon and it’s a must for your book collection!
